Lisa
Selin Davis - Belly (Little, Brown)
Lisa Selin Davis is a freelance journalist and a
visiting professor of creative writing at the Pratt Institute
in Brooklyn. Belly, her heart-breaking
first novel, takes a hard look at William “Belly”
O’Leary, whose four-year stint in prison has left him
feeling like a stranger in his own life. Without friends or
resources – and facing the oncoming shock of a blue
collar existence – he realizes the mistakes made in
his past are more tenacious and problematic than ever expected.

Karen Olsson - Waterloo
(Farrar, Straus and
Giroux)
Karen
Olsson is a writer at large for Texas Monthly and a
former editor of The Texas Observer whose writing has
appeared in The Washington Post, The Baffler,
and The Nation. Her first novel, Waterloo,
is set in Austin (“the last bastion of liberal Texas”)
and humorously describes a less-than-motivated young reporter
who must confront an unimpressed boss, angry politicians, and
corporate America in order to put his first real story to bed.

consultant for the New York City Public School System whose
short stories have appeared in various publications including
Sewanee Review and Prairie Schooner. Her magical

a young neighbor to a new world of imagination, adventure, and
possibility.
